CARL SCHUHMANN, A GREAT GERMAN ATHLETE

Carl Schuhmann was a German athlete who was born on the 12th May 1869. He won four gold medals in gymnastics and Greco-roman combat in the Olympic Games of Athens, 1896. He also competed in weight-lifting events.
He was one of the best competitors in the German team of these Games, due to his victories in a great quantity of competitions.

THE PANATHINAIKO STADIUM


The Panathinaiko stadium is an athletics stadium situated in Athens. In this Stadium, the first Olympic Games were celebrated, in 1896. It’s been rebuilt as of the remainder of the ancient Greek stadium. The Panathinaiko Stadium is very important and it’s one of the most ancient ones.

This stadium has been used actually for meeting Greek athletes, and in some cases, concerts have been celebrated on it.


SPIRIDON LOUIS, A GREAT ATHLETE


Spiridion Louis and also known as “Spyros” was born on the 12th of January 1873. He was a Greek athlete because of his birth in Maroussi, Greece. Spiridon was a great competitor in running events and he was the best Greek player during the first Olimpiad, which was celebrated in his place of birth. He won one gold medal in this first Olympic Games of the Modern Era: Athens, 1896.
Before competing in these Games he was a water merchant in Athens. These Olympic Games were the only ones in which Spiridon Louis participated. After this Games finished, he went to his birth city, where he worked as a farmer and then, as a police. Some years later, the 26th of March 1940 he died in Maroussi.
